Moscow is the capital of Russia. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its total area is about 900 square kilometers. The population is over 8 million.
The heart of Moscow is Red Square. It has a lot of sites. St Basil’s Cathedral was built in the 16th century to commemorate Russian conquest of the Kingdom of Kazan in 1552. There is a legend that Ivan the Terrible blinded architects Barma and Postnik, because he didn’t want them to create another masterpiece.
We can also see the monument to Minin and Pozharsky. It was designed in 1818 in memory of the Russian victory over the Polish invaders. Near the monument you can see Lobnoye Mesto, the tribune of ancient Moscow. The tsar’s decrees, edicts, orders were usually read out there.
